Possessive pronouns

In English, a possessive pronoun replaces a noun and indicates its possessor; there are 6 of them: mine, yours, his, hers, ours, and theirs. In French, there is a wider range of pronouns because the choice of possessive pronoun depends on the gender and number of the possessed object or person (NOT on the possessor).

  1. Ce n'est pas la voiture du président puisque la sienne est noire.

It is not the president's car as his is black.

  1. Mes parents ne sont pas venus mais les tiens sont ici.

My parents did not come but yours are here.
